Judges' Comments

Kym Milne
Fragrant, blackberry, pepper and spice. Young, juicy, easy palate. Easy drinking fruit driven style, nice length. Went well with the food

Stuart Halliday
White pepper and spice, medium tannin structure, juicy bright acid, palate left disjointed with food, green characters come forward

Oliver Masters
Medium dark red, primary back pepper and red fruit on palate, tight pure elegant palate, good match with BBQ Octopus

Natasha Hughes
Vivid, peppery cool-climate style with real depth of ripe dark plum fruit at the core. Fresh acidity and fine tannins. Elegant.

Corey Ryan
Deep Crimson colour, lifted spice and pepper aromas. A tightly structured wine with good intensity and focus. The palate has a good acid line, the mid palate is youthful and bound. The texture of the octopus and smoky aromas of the BBQ complement the pepper and spice of this wine well.

Matthew Deller
Dark appearance. Typical NZ style Syrah, ripe style with lifted black pepper, violet, berry fruit, clove oak. Quite dense, with crisp, crunchy acidity and solid, sappy tannins. Good length, drying finish. Food makes this wine appear tight and closed, accentuates the oak, and the green tannins in this wine.
